Intro

I hate DRM. Actually, that is a understatement. I despise DRM. I cannot state that enough. The very notion that a company can control what we do with the things we buy fills me with rage, I would love nothing more than to declare the practice of locking away a customer's purchase behind ridiculous restrictions banned.

Unfortunately, I do not have that kind of power, nor will anyone propose such a thing, as to not upset our corporate overlords, may they always smile down upon us. But what we can do as consumers is consider buying from stores that don't use DRM. Maybe if enough people choose to buy DRM free, companies may think about it themselves.

Games & Software

GOG

Me and Steam have a love-hate relationship. On the one hand, I love the fact that I have such a wide selection of games to choose from, but on the other hand, I hate that it forces it's DRM onto you. It's not as bad as Denuvo or Always Online DRM, but i'm still not a fan.

Enter GOG. If you've played the Witcher series before, or Cyberpunk 2077 before, GOG is CD Projekt Red's game store In fact, if you own CDPR's games on steam, you can apparently get a code to add it to your GOG account.

Also, if you are into your retro games, GOG is a great place to look, as GOG has done a tonne of work getting them running on modern systems.

GOG also does a free game give away every few weeks too, they usually aren't big name games, typically indie or older games, but still, free is free...

Zoom Platform

Zoom (Not to be confused with the video chat platform of the same name) doesn't have as many games as GOG but what it does have is high quality games (Except for Bad Rats, not sure how that got approved, other than meme value)

If you're into your Boomer Shooters, it's the one place you can but the Duke Nukem games (The Pre Gearbox versions), if you want to relive your childhood, it has many edutainment games.

Every year or so, the Blender Foundation creates a short film to promote the software, the most famous being Sintel, Big Buck Bunny Cosmos Laundromat and Elephants Dream

They don't just release the movie file however, they also release the files required to render it too, meaning you can rerender for higher resoltuions!

Rifftrax

Rifftrax does have some movies (I Think?) but the main draw is MST3K Style comedy you can buy. The idea is that you sync up your copy of the movie with the audio commentary.
